Piaget – Vygotsky

I only recently discovered the importance of the Piaget – Vygotsky “debate” for educators. It seems that this debate has spread all over the world, in the wake of American textbooks in education. I even met students in a coffee shop in the Philippines talking about it. Of course, educators being interested in teaching and learning, they tend to favor Vygotsky over Piaget, which is understandable as he was more interested in education than Piaget. Yet, in the education textbooks I have checked, as well as in what appears on Internet on this debate, Piaget tends to be considered as the one who did not really understand the question of knowledge transmission.
